Thor’s Hammer, Mjolnir

Thor's Best Scenes With Hammer Compilation 2018 | *1080p HD*|Thor's Fight Scenes| MJOLNIR | Ragnarok

One of the most iconic weapons from the Marvel Comics and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. It is a very strong weapon capable of flight summoning powerful storms and more.  It’s so powerful that Thor was even able to make Galactus flee for his life.

With Mjolnir, Thor has done a lot of great feats. The hammer is his signature weapon and it completes his identity. For good reason, Thor and his hammer, are almost inseparable. Both Thor and Mjolnir are equally renowned. Even those who haven’t read any of the comics or watched any of the films are likely to be familiar with Thor and his powerful hammer. If you would like Mjolnir for yourself, check it out here on Amazon.

As you might already know, the story of Thor and Mjolnir is based on the Norse god and his hammer with the same names in Norse mythology. Both hammer-wielding Thors are associated with lightning, thunder, and storms. Of course, while the Thor we know from Marvel may have the same name and almost the same power, the two are completely different.

In this article, we’ll be discussing everything you could possibly want to know about Thor’s hammer. From the different variations of its origins to how each of Mjolnir’s stories evolved, we’ll be diving deep into the lore and everything else you should know about Mjolnir.

What Does Mjolnir Look Like?

As mentioned earlier, Thor and Mjolnir are both based on a Norse god of the same name. Although that may be the case, between the two gods of thunder and their hammers, in terms of design, they share nothing in common.

Thor’s Hammer In the comics:

Inscription on thor's hammer

The design of Mjolnir in the comics is depicted as being a square-headed sledgehammer with a short handle. Its head is large with a metallic silver color and its short round handle is wrapped with brown leather.

The brown leather continues to form a looped lanyard at the bottom of the handle that Thor typically used to spin the hammer at extremely high speeds before propelling himself through the air.

Early designs of the hammer have an inscription on its side that says, “Whosoever holds the hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”

Thor’s Hammer In the films:

the hammer of thor

The design of Mjolnir for the Marvel Cinematic Universe is very reminiscent of its design in the comics. In fact, not much at all was changed. Mjolnir in the films still had a large, square head and a short rounded handle that is wrapped in brown leather that continues to form a loop at the end.

Much of its general appearance is almost the same as its design in the comics. However, it lost its distinct image of having the inscriptions on its side.

Mjolnir

You might think that there was only one single design for Mjolnir (prop) that was used for the films. However, this is not the case. It’s hard to notice, especially when you’re just watching the movies to enjoy them, but there were actually several different designs showcased in the films.

Although detail is shown to be inscribed on the side of the hammer, it’s no longer made of readable text that displays the same phrase like the one in the comics. Instead, it became an Asgardian symbol that may be closely linked to Odin.

Mjolnir in the desert

The image shown above is from a post-credit scene of Iron Man 2 (2010). Notice how the tip of the handle only has a very basic design and also appears to look shorter than the rest of the designs used in the movies.

Thor holding Mjolnir

As for the new image shown above, it has a different design for the handle and its base, but the head appears to look the same. Remember how the top photo makes use of gold for the details of the handle and its pommel.

Vision holding Thor's hammer

Now, Mjolnir upon being wielded by both Vision and Captain America seem to make use of silver instead of the gold. This might just be because of lighting.

During the scene where the Avengers tried to lift Mjolnir, you can see two designs of the hammer were actually used. You can see this if you watch closely and notice one version has the loop on its handle while the other did not.

Concept Art of Mjolnir:

These are the early concept designs for Mjolnir. As you can see there were quite a few options considered before deciding on the final design for the films.

When Did Mjolnir First Appear?

Comic that Thor's hammer first appeared

Mjolnir dates back to the ‘60s. It first appeared in Journey Into Mystery #83 which was published in August of 1962. The comic was written by the legendary Stan Lee and the artists for the designs were Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott.

In that comic, it was immediately established that Mjolnir was the weapon of Thor. As for its origins, there are several variations in the comics that explain how Thor was able to get his hands on Mjolnir.

Who Made Mjolnir and What is the Hammer Made Of?

If you’re not a fan of reading comics, you might not know just what material Mjolnir made of. Interestingly, Mjolnir is also not just made of vibranium or adamantium. The material that was used to forge Mjolnir depends heavily on the version of its origins.

Dwarf making Mjolnir

Norse Mythology

In Norse Mythology, Mjolnir was given as a gift to Odin by Loki. It then ended up being given to Thor.

Mjolnir, forged in Norse mythology, Thor’s hammer, is said to be made of iron and had these abilities:

  • It never shatters
  • It never misses a target
  • It would always return to Thor

Thor, Second Volume

A different story was told in the second volume of the title Thor. In this version, it was Odin himself that ordered the dwarven blacksmiths, Buri, Eitri and Brokk to forge Mjolnir. Although this time, they made Mjolnir out of the core of a star.

This is similar to that of the movie wherein Odin mentioned that Mjolnir was “forged in the heart of a dying star”. Although in this story, the process of creating Mjolnir was so extreme that it caused the destruction of the star and nearly also the Earth.

The Mighty Thor Series

Jane Foster holding Thor's hammer

The Mighty Thor series written by Jason Aaron gave an alternate explanation to the origin of Mjolnir. Before we proceed, know that “Thor” is just a title and not really a name. For in this comic, Jane Foster is Thor.

The tale is quite eventful and each happening plays a huge part in the creation of Mjolnir. The story begins with a war that happened at some point in the past between the trolls and the dwarves.

During this time, Odin was immensely powerful. So powerful that he could choose to play a part in any war or wage his own and would always end up victorious. Odin though  is just, and typically ignores all other wars that don’t have to do anything with him.

But there was something about the war between the dwarves and the trolls that made him decide to take action. Odin knew the dwarves were the best craftsmen and capable of creating the most powerful weamons in the universe. He feared if the trolls won there would no longer be anyone capable of creating the mightiest weapons.Odin was able to vanquish the trolls. In return the dwarves gave him the best gift that they could offer to the Asgardian king, a piece of metal called “Uru.” Uru is an incredibly rare and strong material. In fact, Uru, by itself, is one of the strongest metals in the Marvel universe.

Although he was given just a nugget, it was enough to help forge an incredibly powerful weapon. This was because in addition to being extremely durable, Uru also has an affinity for magic.

Uru can store magic but the downside is that it is very difficult to work with. Because of its rarity along with the challenge of being able to forge something using Uru, only a handful of weapons were created with it.

The next event that helped give birth to Mjolnir was a powerful galactic storm. It was so powerful that it not only destroyed planets but also galaxies. It destroyed anything in its path and eventually, it went towards Asgard, homeworld of Odin and the Asgardians.

As the storm went on towards Asgard, Odin was able to pacify the storm. He then took the Uru that was given to him and confined the storm inside it. Knowing just how the storm easily destroyed solar systems and galaxies, Odin decided to have a weapon forged using the storm infused Uru. Odin asked the dwarves to help create the weapon. After 17 days they were finally able to forge the hammer.

When the hammer was finished, it was presented to Odin as the finest weapon ever made in the 9 realms. Odin then named it, “Mjolnir.”

What Are the Abilities of Mjolnir?

the hammer of Thor

If you only know about Thor from the films, you’re missing a lot of the story about his hammer. While Thor might be a god and a son of Odin, much of the powers he put on display were actually granted unto him by Mjolnir.

Without his hammer the god of thunder would lose a lot of his abilities. So, just how much of Thor is Thor and just how much of Thor is Mjolnir? It’s sometimes surprising to know just how much power Mjolnir has. These are the powers that Mjolnir grants unto its wielder:

You Can Fly With The Hammer of Thor

Let’s begin with the most obvious. Whether you’ve known Thor only through the movies or only through the comics, you’ve seen him fly. His flight ability is actually caused by Mjolnir. In other words, Thor isn’t able to fly on his own.

With his hammer, Thor can fly so fast that he becomes invisible to the naked eye. When flying through an atmosphere similar to that of Earth, he can fly as fast as the speed of sound.

But Mjolnir can do way more than just burst through the air at the speed of sound. It can fly three times faster than the speed of light. It can go so fast that Mjolnir transcends both space and time.

Mjolnir can quickly maneuver while flying through the air at the speed of just a simple thought. It also lets Thor hover in midair when he spins Mjolnir at a very high speed over his head.

Thor’s Hammer Can Manipulate the Weather

lightning striking thors hammer

While Thor on his own can control lightning, wind, rain and more, Mjolnir greatly boosts his skill with manipulating the weather. Being the god of thunder, you might get to think that Thor can only control thunder or lightning.

However, with Mjolnir, he can do vastly more. With Mjolnir, its wielder can create powerful earthquakes, cause volcanoes to explode, create blizzards, torrential rain, tornadoes and more. Mjolnir allows its wielder to do all those at a planetary and galactic level if needed.

It also allows its wielder to create solar flares and strong stellar winds in space. Remember the storm that was stored in the Uru that was used to create Mjolnir? Its nature of being able to destroy worlds and galaxies enabled Mjolnir to extend its capabilities of creating and controlling storms defying natural weather.

Mjolnir Can Grant Allspeak

The people of Earth alone have a plethora of different languages. Imagine just how many there are in the entirety of the Marvel universe. Mjolnir grants Thor Allspeak. This ability allows Thor to speak and understand all languages.

Thors Hammer Can Help Thor Recall Events

In addition to being the perfect translation device, Mjolnir also allows its wielder to recall any event that has happened.

Thor’s Hammer Can Grant Thor the Power of Transformation

With Mjolnir, Thor can transform himself into having a mortal guise. During the time when he lived on Earth, he went by his Donald Blake persona. From Donald Blake, at will, he could transform back to being Thor.

Mjolnir Can Sense Energy

Mjolnir allows its wielder to detect every type of energy, especially those that are particularly evil in nature. When someone is in hiding, Mjolnir can also be used to track down his or her energy pattern.

Mjolnir is also particularly good with detecting or sensing any Asgardian’s presence or aura.

Thor’s Hammer can Absorb and Redirect

In the films, Mjolnir being destroyed by Hela made the hammer less powerful than it actually is.

Here begins the part where we get to know more of the ferocious side of Mjolnir.

Mjolnir can absorb even the strongest of all energy blasts that is directed towards its wielder. Thor has displayed this power multiple times in the comics.

Mjolnir can also redirect an amplified energy blast towards a target. With Mjolnir, Thor was able to absorb and redirect the entire energy of the Null Bomb.

You can Teleport with the Hammer of Thor

In the films, Thor depended on Heimdall to travel to Earth and other dimensions as well as for going back to Asgard. However, in the comics, Thor can do all that and more with Mjolnir.

By rapidly swirling Mjolnir by the leather loop, Thor can open up a vortex which has the same function as a wormhole. With it, he can pass through the vortex and get to a destination instantaneously.

Others can also pass through the vortex that Thor created. In the comics, he was able to send a large group of people to Limbo. He was also able to send Ymir and even Surtu to the Death Dimension.

Mjolnir can Detect Illusions

In the Marvel universe, there are beings such as Loki and Doctor Strange that can summon illusions to give their opponents a hard time. While others do find it hard to see through illusions, with Mjolnir, Thor can easily distinguish casters from their illusions.

You can send Interdimensional Messaging with Thors Hammer

Being a god or a ruler of Asgard comes with great responsibility. Especially when you are the protector of the nine realms, you’ll need a system for you to know everything significant that is ever happening.

More than that, you’ll also need a way to tell individuals whatever it is you need them to know. Mjolnir solves this problem by allowing its wielder to be able to send psychic messages anywhere across the nine realms.

Time Travel is Possible with Mjolnir

Thor’s Mjolnir allows him to travel through time. This was something not shown in the movies. But in the comics, it was demonstrated multiple times.

Thor’s Hammer can Manipulate Matter

If spun at cyclotronic speeds, Mjolnir can manipulate matter. This can be done from a molecular level up to a huge scale.

The Hammer of Thor can Resurrect

Mjolnir was actually used a couple of times in the comics for its ability to resurrect. At one point, Thor channeled his power through Mjolnir to resurrect a person he wrongly killed. He also resurrected Captain America himself.

Mjolnir can Create Force fields

More than a handful of superheroes can create forcefields but the forcefield that Mjolnir can generate is on a whole different level. A barrier that Mjolnir creates is simply impenetrable. The force field generated by Mjolnir was even able to contain an explosion from a life bomb.

The life bomb is so insanely powerful that it can wipe out a fifth of the whole Marvel universe. Mjolnir was able to contain the explosion without even faltering.

Thor’s Hammer can Create a “God Blast”

With Thor’s godly powers in combination with the magic that channels through Mjolnir, Thor can create a God Blast. A God Blast is so powerful that it made Galactus run for his life. It also sent Ego the Living Planet and Alter Ego into a coma.

Thor’s Hammer can also Create Anti-fore and Thermo-blasts

Two other energy projections other than the God Blast that Thor can do with the hammer are the anti-force and thermo-blast. Both are able to destroy planets or kill incredibly strong beings.

Mjolnir Can make Thor Invisibile and Intangible

Another ability that Mjolnir can grant is the power to turn its wielder or others invisible or intangible. It can also disrupt the phasing abilities of certain characters such as Shadowcat and Vision.

Thors Hammer is a Holy Object

Mjolnir is formerly considered a religious relic. As such, the hammer is deadly to vampires. Within contact, a vampire can instantly burst into flames and turn into dust.

Can the Mjolnir Be Broken?

HELA Destroys Thor's Hammer In Thor Ragnarok

In Norse Mythology, it was told that Mjolnir can never shatter. However, in the Marvel universe, Mjolnir is still a bit vulnerable. Knowing what it is capable of, it’s hard to imagine something like Mjolnir can still be destroyed. While Mjolnir by itself truly possess immense power, it can actually still be destroyed.

Here are the rare instances where the mighty Mjolnir got destroyed.

The Encounter with Hela Causes Thor’s Hammer to Shatter

Mjolnir breaking from Hela

In the movie, “Thor: Ragnarok”, when Thor and Loki encountered Hela just after the death of Odin, the reunion with their sister wasn’t such a pleasurable experience. Upon Odin’s death, Hela’s banishment came to an end.

This was how she was able to reveal herself. Upon having a disagreement with Thor, the god of Thunder threw Mjolnir at her. With ease, Hela was able to stop Mjolnir and crush it with just one hand.

In the comics, Mjolnir has been broken a handful of times. Here are six instances that the hammer broke in the comics:

Mjolnir is Sliced in Journey Into Mystery #118 (1965)

Thor's hammer getting destroyed by Destroyer

The story went with Thor battling a suit of armor called the Destroyer. It was made by Odin and was meant to be almost unconquerable. The Destroyer was also shown in the first Thor movie. In the comics, the Destroyer shot a blast of powerful energy that was able to shatter Thor’s hammer.

Thor’s Hammer is Disintegrated in Avengers Vol. 1 #215 (1981)

Molecule man destroying Mjolnir

In this story, Molecule Man got into a mess with Thor, Captain America, Silver Surfer, and Iron Man. With his powers of manipulating matter on a molecular level, he easily destroyed Thor’s Mjolnir, Captain America’s shield, Silver Surfer’s flying surfboard and also Tony Stark’s armor.

Later in the story, he reversed what he had done, except for remaking the Iron Man armor, because it required more than the ability to manipulate matter. It also required know-how with advanced technology too.

Thors Hammer is Shattered in Thor Vol. 1 #388 (1988)

Exitar destroying the hammer of Thor

Thor got into a fight with a Celestial called Exitar. Although Thor was able to do some significant damage to his opponent, Exitar was just too much, causing Mjolnir to shatter. Luckily, Exitar ended the fight when he realized that both of them shouldn’t be fighting any longer.

More than that, Exitar was also kind enough to let a replicoid heal the wounds of Thor and also repair the broken Mjolnir.

Mjolnir Shatters in Thor Vol. 2 #10 (1999)

Thor remaking his hammer

In this story, Thor battled with a Dark God that used to be imprisoned by Odin. The Dark God was named Perrikus. Right after he was able to get out of his cell, he wreaked havoc and was able to shatter Mjolnir, using a gigantic Dark God forged blade.

Mjolnir was repaired by Thor himself and this time, without any need of anyone or anything else.

The Hammer of Thor Shatters in Thor Vol. 2 #80 (2004)

Thor's hammer breaking in Thor Ragnarok

In the comics, Ragnarok is a recurring fate of Asgard. As was also shown in the film, Ragnarok is the destruction of Asgard. At one point, it was Loki who became the nemesis. He used the forge of Surtur to forge Uru weapons that are much like Thor’s Mjolnir.

He made a lot of the Uru weapons and armed his army with them. When encountered by Thor, the god of thunder made his attack causing Mjolnir to clash against two other Uru weapons; Fenris’ hammer and the gauntlets of Ulik.

It caused a powerful explosion and as the dust settled, it was revealed to everyone that all the Uru weapons were destroyed. It was not until “Fantastic Four” #536 in 2006 when Mjolnir was shown again. For some reason, Mjolnir at the time was no longer broken.

Mjolnir Shatters Again in Thor #600 (2009)

Bor vs Thor with his hammer breaking

Bor was Odin’s father and Thor’s grandfather. Being Odin’s father, you might already get an idea of just how powerful Bor could be. It was revealed that Bor hadn’t actually died but was instead just locked up by his own son, Odin.

Loki was able to set Bor free, letting him loose in the city of New York. With his power, Loki placed Bor under a spell, thinking he was surrounded by demons. This lead Bor to cause massive damage.

Thor, in response, went to where Bor was and got into a fight with him. At that point, he did not know yet that Bor was his grandfather. The two fought so hard that the intensity of their battle caused Mjolnir to shatter upon delivering the killing blow.

Some moments later, it was made known to Thor that Bor was actually his grandfather. This caused him despair, and trauma.

His Mjolnir was repaired this time with the help of Doctor Strange. However, repairing Mjolnir costs him a part of his life force.

Mjolnir Vs Vibranium and Adamantium

The Avengers - Thor's Hammer Hits Captain America's Shield

Uru may be one of the strongest metals in the universe but it’s not the only material introduced having the same level of nature, complexity or at least, durability. There’s also vibranium and adamantium.

Vibranium was made known to us through Captain America’s shield and Black Panther’s suit. Adamantium is famous for making up Wolverine’s skeletal structure.

Captain America’s shield and the suit of Black Panther are made of Wakandan Vibranium. Wakandan Vibranium is excellent with absorbing vast amounts of energy. As we saw in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even a direct attack from Mjolnir did not do much against Captain America’s shield.

Meanwhile, Antarctic Vibranium has its distinct anti-metal properties. During its discovery, the hammer used to open up a chunk of it, as well as all the other surrounding equipment made of metal, dissolved.

The greater the amount of the Antarctic vibranium, the larger its radius of effect. If the two types of vibranium metals are pitted against each other, both will just nullify each other’s effects. Adamantium was created with vibranium as one of the raw materials used. Adamantium is considered indestructible by conventional means. Only celestials or those that can manipulate matter on a molecular level can affect Adamantium.

Against other metals, only Antarctic Vibranium is capable of damaging true Adamantium because of its anti-metal properties.

Since Wakandan Vibranium can absorb all types of energy including heat and sound, Uru, specifically, Mjolnir, won’t have any effect against Wakandan Vibranium.

Uru against Adamantium is a totally different case. In terms of durability, Adamantium actually beats Uru. However, Mjolnir having undergone a special type of forging process and also having the powerful storm inside of it makes it stronger than Adamantium.

In Wolverine vs Thor (2009), the two battled it out. Wolverine was able to attack Mjolnir with his Adamantium claws but it did nothing to Mjolnir.

While Wolverine’s Adamantium claws and bone structure are one of the hardest things in the universe, Captain America’s shield is actually harder being made of an alloy of both Vibranium and Adamantium that couldn’t be replicated.

While we haven’t seen Thor landing a successful hit with his Mjolnir against Wolverine, we can get an idea of what would happen based on how he did against Captain America’s shield.

Thor's Mjolnir vs Captain America's shield

At one point, Thor was actually able to dent Captain America’s shield, but only with the power of Odin’s force. If Thor had the same power and happened to land a hit, it would mean bad news to Wolverine.

To summarize, Captain America’s shield has the best chance against an attack from Thor. On the other hand, Wolverine, if hit, could likely end up with deformed adamantium bone structures. But this can only happen if Thor could actually land a strike on Wolverine.

As what was shown in Wolverine vs Thor, with just hand to hand combat, Wolverine can kill Thor as Thor couldn’t keep up with Wolverine’s speed and agility.

Enchantments on Mjolnir

Odin speaking to Mjolnir

Mjolnir has a handful of enchantments, making it more powerful. The first enchantment endowed by Odin is actually quite surprising. After Mjolnir was forged, the storm inside of it was still actually raging. Initially, Odin wanted Mjolnir for himself. But it seemed Mjolnir didn’t like him back. It sent him flying all over Asgard not wanting to be tamed.

Along Odin’s wild ride with Mjolnir, Asgard almost got destroyed. Because of this, Odin made his very first enchantment to the hammer. The first enchantment was so that it would be impossible for everyone else to lift Mjolnir.

At the time of this writing, it still wasn’t clarified if this enchantment was the same one Odin made as to whoever was worthy would be capable of lifting the hammer or if it was a totally different one.

Other enchantments include being able to return to Thor when called and being able to summon lightning, rain, and wind. It can manipulate weather, open portals and not be “gone from Thor’s grasp”.

Is Mjolnir Sentient?

While Mjolnir is capable of doing and or granting a lot of powerful abilities, it may seem like Mjolnir is just a very powerful hammer. However, Mjolnir is actually capable of more than just the abilities already explained.

Mjolnir actually is sentient. It made Jane Foster go all the way to the Lord Librarian.

Odin too was sent flying all over Asgard because Mjolnir did not want him as its wielder. Mjolnir can also choose its wielder. Such is the case for Thor and Jane.

Who Were Able to Wield Mjolnir?

Because of the enchantment that Odin placed on Mjolnir, only those that are “worthy” are able to lift it. Here are but a few other characters that were able to wield the mighty Mjolnir:

Beta Ray Bill wields the hammer – The Mighty Thor #337 (1983)

Alien Beta Ray Bill was actually the very first one outside the Norse pantheon who was able to wield Mjolnir. He picked it up thinking it was just a stick accidentally giving himself the power of Thor.

Captain America Wields Mjolnir – The Mighty Thor #390 (1988)

Captain America lift thor's hammer mjolnir - Avengers End Game

In the film, it was confirmed that Captain America was always worthy of being able to wield the hammer. He just chose not to do so until their fight with Thanos.

In the comics, Captain America was able to pick up the hammer during their battle with the Egyptian God of Death, Seth. He picked up the hammer and handed it to Thor.

Ragnarok is Able to Wield the Hammer of Thor – Dark Avengers #189 (2013)

In an alternate universe where Thor has fallen, Mjolnir was left without a wielder letting everyone else get a chance of having its power. In this story, it was Ragnarok that was able to wield Mjolnir.

Wonder Woman Carries Thors Hammer – Marvel V DC #3 (1996)

Although Wonder Woman isn’t from Marvel,in Marvel vs DC #3 (1996), Thor was bested by Wonder Woman.

After being defeated, Wonder Woman wielded the hammer.

Superman Easily Wielded Mjolnir – Avengers/JLA #4 (2004)

Another character from DC who was able to wield Mjolnir was Superman. In Avengers/JLA #4 (2004), Superman wasn’t only able to wield Mjolnir but he was also able to use Captain America’s shield as well.

He is the only one aside from Captain America to use both weapons at the same time.

Magneto Also Can Wield The Hammer of Thor – The Ultimates 3 #5 (2008)

This might seem like cheating but being able to control and manipulate metal, Magneto was able to wield Mjolnir.

Loki Can Wield The Thor Hammer – Avengers & X-Men: Axis #9 – (2014)

Loki, believe it or not, was actually one of the few who were deemed worthy to wield Mjolnir. Upon knowing this, Loki made his own hammer. When he was able to get his hands on the actual Mjolnir, he almost defeated Thor himself.

Jane Foster Is Worthy of Holding Mjolnir

When Thor suddenly lost his “worthiness” of wielding the hammer, Mjolnir chose Jane Foster to be the new Thor.

Red Hulk Wielded Thor’s Hammer in Space – Hulk Vol.2 #5

Against Red Hulk, Thor did not stand a chance. Inspace, Red Hulk was able to take advantage of Mjolnir becoming weightless using it against Thor.

Vision Hands The Hammer of Thor to Thor– Avengers: Age of Ultron

Even being newly born, Vision was able to lift Mjolnir graciously handing it to Thor. This surprised everyone for they knew what it took to be able to lift Thor’s hammer.

Thunderstrike, Another Thor, Commands Mjolnir

When Thor Odinson retired from being Thor, Mjolnir needed a new wielder. This was where Eric Masterson came in. His bravery impressed Thor but after being hurt in his battle with Mongoose and Loki, Odin merged him with Thor thus becoming Thunderstrike.

Valkyrie Wields Thors Hammer

After Magneto was able to wield the hammer using his own mutant power of controlling metal through magnetism, Valkyrie was able to cut his arm off. Valkyrie then picked up Mjolnir and became the new Thor.

Dr Doom Wielded Mjolnir

Dr Doom at some point became very fascinated and even obsessed with the powers of Mjolnir. Fortunately for him, when the events of Ragnarok occurred, Mjolnir fell opening a portal from where he was at that time, which was… hell.

He went through the portal, tried to lift the hammer and for some reason, was able to pick it up and wield it.

Silver Surfer Finally Could Wield Thor’s Hammer

It took Silver Silver over a million years trying to become “worthy”but the time finally came when he was able to summon Mjolnir.

Summary and Conclusion:

A lot of events took place that made it possible for Mjolnir to be forged. It all started with a war between the trolls and the dwarves wherein Odin sided with the dwarves because of their talent when it comes to crafting the best relics and weapons in the universe.

Being made of Uru, and infused with the powerful storm, Mjolnir is a very terrifying weapon. It is more than capable of doing planetary level magic and it can also absorb even the most powerful energy blast in the universe.Whether you’re a big comic or movie fan, there’s a lot to know about Mjolnir. Hopefully this article has helped you learn just a little more about this amazing hammer.
