What makes Minecraft unique is that players may not actually have any objective in the world. However, while that may be so, players have so many options on what to do across the vast world of Minecraft. For the most part, you just make up what you want to do.
In Minecraft, players can build literally anything! There are also enemies lurking around. More importantly, players can play with their friends.
Some play the game for its building system, some for its survival aspect, some just wants to kill other players and some play for everything that the game has to offer. Regardless, in the world of Minecraft, a weapon is always needed.

Weapons, too, can be crafted and guess what? Since the early days of Minecraft, one of the only melee weapons that players can craft to protect themselves are… swords. There are just a few types of swords but more than just crafting them, they can be turned into even more powerful weapons with the help of a couple more items.
But just how powerful is the diamond sword? How can one make it and what makes the diamond sword so special? Let’s find out!
The Diamond Sword
Imagine yourself suddenly waking up into a pixelated world. Upon examining yourself, you have also become pixelated. There’s an abundance of resources everywhere and you find out that you can create certain things with whatever you can get your hands on.
You’ve learned how to build and built yourself a shelter and you realized that in the pixelated world you are suddenly in, you are also mortal. Your health is displayed as several hearts and without even getting into trouble yet, you know what would happen if those hearts vanish, you die.
You also learned that more than livestock, beings that want you dead are also around. Some of them came to get you but fortunately, you were able to make some preparations earlier. With what you have gathered, you were able to make yourself a wooden sword.
However, you quickly learn that it’s not very durable being made of wood. It broke and the hostile mobs were able to get you.
Although playing the game might not be exactly like that, the game could be just as thrilling, if not even more. We had that story for you more than just to entertain, we wanted to point out just how the quality of a sword can make or break you.
As we mentioned earlier, the diamond sword is the strongest sword in Minecraft. But simply stating that won’t be enough to let you see just how distant the diamond sword is from all the rest.
To give you a better idea of just how powerful the diamond sword is, we need to look at the numbers. In Minecraft, there are only 6 different types of swords. These are the wooden sword, stone sword, iron sword, golden sword, and the diamond sword.
Earlier, we mentioned the hearts as health points. All “living beings” in Minecraft have their own respective number of hearts or health points. Needless to say, all players have these too. Each weapon also has its corresponding attack power.
The attack power of each type of sword is equivalent to a certain number of hearts. The stronger the sword, the more hearts it can take out from a target per attack. Here are the swords with their corresponding damage:

Wooden Sword – the wooden sword has damage of 2.5 hearts (2 hearts for Java Edition). This means that if the player has 10 hearts, receiving just 4 attacks from a wooden sword can be enough to kill the player.
Golden Sword – the golden sword has damage of 2.5 hearts (2 hearts for Java Edition). You would expect the golden sword to be at least slightly stronger than the wooden sword but in terms of damage, that’s not the case.
Stone Sword – the stone sword has damage of 3 hearts (2.5 hearts for Java Edition).
Iron Sword – the iron sword has damage of 3.5 hearts (3 hearts for Java Edition).
Diamond Sword – the diamond sword has damage of 4 hearts (3.5 hearts for Java Edition).
While there doesn’t seem like a lot of difference in terms of damage, those are not the only numbers that make the diamond sword great. Otherwise, you might just think of the diamond sword as overrated.
In terms of attack speed, all the swords mentioned above have a 1.6 attack speed in Java. Meanwhile, in Bedrock and legacy consoles, swords don’t have any attack cooldown and sweep attack.
More than damage and attack speed, another factor to consider is their durability. While players can be killed, weapons too can be destroyed.
More than having the most damage, the diamond sword is also the most durable. However, this time, its durability compared to the rest is far by a long shot. This is where the diamond sword stands out.
Again, here are the numbers:
Wooden Sword – the wooden sword has a durability of 60.
Golden Sword – the golden sword has a durability of 33, even weaker than the wooden sword.
Stone Sword – the stone sword has a durability of 132.
Iron Sword – the iron sword has a durability of 251.
And finally…
Diamond Sword – the diamond sword has a whopping 1,562 durability.
The same durability applies to both the Java Edition and the Bedrock and PS4 Editions. Basically, one diamond sword is equal to 26 wooden swords. The diamond sword has also almost twice the damage.
Even the second most durable weapon doesn’t come close to the diamond sword. The diamond sword is still six times more durable than the iron sword. This should make choosing a weapon easier for you the next time you visit Minecraft’s pixelated world.
Of course, you can’t have the diamond sword right away. We’ll get into that later. Although you could have it if someone gives you a diamond sword… but where’s the fun in that? Right?
What Does the Diamond Sword Look Like?
All swords in Minecraft look alike, they only differ in color. Swords in Minecraft look like pixelated short words. They have a straight, double-edged blade, a basic guard, the grip and pommel. For the diamond sword, it has an aquamarine color with shades of brown for its grip.
Minecraft has been around for a very long time and over the years, they have made a lot of updates. Of course, this also includes the textures for the different weapons. Even if you have been playing Minecraft, you might not have noticed these changes as it can be hard to notice.

Even the crafting table needs to be crafted first. Again, before you can ever craft your diamond sword or any sword for that matter, you first begin with building the crafting table. Don’t worry as you can make the crafting table right away as you start a new game.
To create a crafting table, you simply have to gather 4 blocks of any wooden plank. This could be oak, spruce, jungle, birch, etc. You can then craft it when you access your inventory. With the crafting table, we can then proceed with creating the diamond sword.
A few items first need to be gathered as requirements for crafting the diamond sword. You will need a stick and two pieces of diamond. While the stick may be easy to find, you’ll quickly learn that diamonds are way harder to locate.

How Can You Quickly Get a Diamond Sword?
You now know the power of the diamond sword and how to craft it. One problem remains, where can you get the diamonds and how can you find them quick?
There’s a lot to say about mining for diamonds. You have to make preparations, find good spots, have a shovel, bring some blocks and a bucket of water and its ideal if your pickaxe is enchanted. However, we are just going to make this guide very brief.
All you have to know is that diamonds can be found between layers 1 to 16. Your best bet is looking for the diamonds at around layer 12. That might sound easy but here’s the thing, lava can be found in between layers 4 to 10 and lava can kill you.
To have a safer means of digging down, dig 2 blocks each time instead of just 1 block so you won’t instantly fall into the lava. At layer 12, keep digging and eventually, you’ll find some diamonds. A pickaxe with Fortune enchantment will increase the drop rate of blocks.
This means more diamonds for you. There are different strategies and ways on how you can mine diamonds faster and better. You can search for them easily online.
What Are the Different Attacks with the Diamond Sword?
In Minecraft, players can do different attacks with the diamond sword or any other sword. All swords work the same way in terms of attacking.
Normal Attack – This is the default attack using the weapon.
Critical Hit – You can perform a critical hit when you jump and successfully hit a target while midair. Doing a critical hit does twice the damage than a normal attack.
Knockback – To knockback your opponent, charge at your opponent by sprinting then hitting them with the sword.
Sweep Attack – Another way to knockback a target is to do a Sweep Attack. With Minecraft 1.9, if the player is moving slowly and once the attack meter is full, the player can do a sweep attack. A successful sweep attack will knockback a target but it won’t damage them.
Can the Diamond Sword be Repaired?
Especially during the early stages of your game, the diamond sword can be considered an expensive weapon. After all, it can be troublesome trying to find diamonds. Luckily, the diamond sword can be repaired.
While the diamond sword may have incredible durability, breaking it is inevitable. That is unless you repair it. Here is how you do that.
For repairing your diamond sword, you will need an Anvil. You can build the anvil using the crafting table. To craft the anvil, you will need 4 iron ingots and 3 blocks of iron.

Now that you know how to make the anvil, let’s get on to repairing the diamond sword. To repair any sword, you need two damaged swords of the same type. This means that you need two damaged diamonds swords to have a brand new one.
Place the two damaged diamonds swords into the anvil and you can craft a new diamond sword. Repairing costs a certain amount of experience levels.
Can You Rename the Diamond Sword?
If you want to give your sword a more personalized touch, you can actually name your diamond sword. This can be done with the Anvil. Simply change the name into the one that you desire and pay the price for naming the sword.

For the enchantment table, you will need 2 diamonds, 1 book, and 4 obsidian. Arrange them as shown above and you’ll have yourself an enchantment table. Here are the available enchantments you can have for the diamond sword:
Bane of Arthropods – this enchantment increases the attack damage of the diamond sword against arthropods.
Curse of Vanishing – Upon the death of the player, all cursed items will disappear.
Fire Aspect – this is a cool enchantment that lights up your targets in flames. Some enemies are immune to burning.
Knockback – while this doesn’t guarantee a knockback per hit, it does increase the probability of knockbacks.
Looting – this is a good enchantment to have if you want the mobs to drop more loot. It increases the amount of loot dropped by mobs.
Mending – this enchantment lets you use XP when mending your weapons, armor, and tools.
Sharpness – one of the most commonly used enchantments for the diamond sword. This enchantment increases the attack damage of the weapon.
Smite – this is a more specific type of enchantment for bonus damage. Smite increases the attack damage of the weapon against undead mobs.
Sweeping Edge – this increases the damage you deal when using sweep attacks.
Unbreaking – if you’re not satisfied with the diamond sword’s durability, you can have this enchantment as it increases the durability of the weapon.

Recently, Minecraft made a new addition to the roster of weapons, the Trident. Ever since then, the diamond sword’s title of still being the strongest weapon of the game has been up for debate.
Here are the numbers:
Diamond Sword’s Attack Damage – 4 hearts (3.5 for Java Edition)
Trident’s Attack Damage – 4.5 hearts (Jave, Legacy Console, and Bedrock Edition)
With just the attack damage, Trident has more than the diamond sword. However, while the diamond sword can be crafted, the Trident can’t. The trident can only be obtained as a drop from a drowned that the player has killed.
Another factor is the attack speed.
Diamond Sword’s Attack Speed – 1.6
Trident’s Attack Speed – 1.1
Although the trident may have greater attack damage, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it also has better damage per second damage. In fact, the DPS of the trident is only 9.9. Meanwhile, the DPS of the diamond sword is 11.2.
This means that the diamond sword still actually has the upper hand in terms of damage.
Diamond Sword’s Durability – 1,562
Trident’s Durability – 251
In terms of durability, the diamond sword is still the king. However, the trident makes up for it by being a weapon that can be thrown. The trident has an attack damage of 4 hearts as a thrown weapon.
This is a luxury that the diamond sword doesn’t have. Also, enchant the trident with loyalty and you can have a weapon that you can keep on throwing while not needing to pick it up. Like the Mjolnir of Thor, you can recall the trident.
With the riptide enchantment, the trident can be used as the best item for traveling as you can launch yourself wherever you aim your trident to. You can use it both for attacking and for traveling across the map.
However, even with the cool enchantments of the trident, it still can’t compete with the diamond sword with enchantments for boosting its damage output like Sharpness and Smite. Plus, the diamond sword can have a lot of other very beneficial enchantments like looting and knockback.
